Wildflower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota
Hole by Hole Descriptions
Hole 1 A short but narrow dogleg right to open the round. Don’t be long, it is an easy bogey. The green is well protected for being a short par four.
Hole 2 The ‘old abandoned farmhouse’ is featured on this hill and dale par 5. Stay on left side of fairway for any chance of reaching the green in two.
Hole 3 An elevated tee box lends a panoramic lake view to this straightforward par four. Avoid the fairway traps on the right and par becomes much easier.
Hole 4 A difficult uphill par 4 with a slight dogleg to the right. A two-tiered green slopes left to right so make sure you are on the side of the green where the pin is located, otherwise par is elusive.
Hole 5 This long par 4 drops 90 feet from tee to green. Make sure to stay left of the trees on the right with your drive.
Hole 6 A tee shot over the trap will put you in the middle of the fairway. A mound on the right side of the green makes the second shot placement critical.
Hole 7 Uphill par 3 with bunker strategically placed in front of green , which slopes severely back to front. A two putt can be looked at as an accomplishment.
Hole 8 A short double dogleg par 5 where the risk for going for the green in two outweighs the reward. The elevated teeing area provides a good chance to ‘launch’ your drive—aim at the tower.
Hole 9 A well bunkered par 3 that requires an accurate shot from the tee. Better to be on the left than right side because of prairie grass mounds adjacent to the green.
Hole 10 Heavily wooded sharp dogleg to the right. #2 handicap hole for a reason; with fairway sloping away from teeing area providing a long iron or fairway wood to a long narrow green.
Hole 11 Wildflower’s signature hole! Shortest par 3 on the course made difficult by the two-tier horseshoe green making for a small safe landing area no matter where the pin is located.
Hole 12 Be wary of bunkers to strategically located in landing area. Mounding on either side of fairway requires a well placed second shot into the large green.
Hole 13 Out of view from the tee box a large bunker makes this otherwise benign par 4 more difficult. Another bunker directly in front of the green will capture any attempt to run the ball up on approach shots.
Hole 14 You have got a challenge in front of you. This long par 5 narrows to this two-tiered green, the most prominent feature on the hole. A par here will light up your face.
Hole 15 Short par 4 with an elevated tee leads to an approach shot with a unique feature; two greens!
Hole 16 The local pro’s favorite hole – wide receptive fairway, big green, and wild turkeys in the oak stand adjacent to the green.
Hole 17 Long par 3 over valley of prairie grass with wide green divided by a wide ridge sloping right to left.
Hole 18 Only dogleg left on the course. Precise drive to the top of the hill in the center of the fairway is necessary in order to access the green below - a drop of 50’.
